On the edge of extraordinary

It's possible that in years to come; I may look back on the next three weeks and think they were some of the most extraordinary of my life.

That's certainly how it plans out, what it looks like as I look forward to the next 21 days or so. 

When you're on the verge of remarkable, it's hard not to get carried away. It's hard not to imagine that the most extraordinary things will happen and that every minute of the next period will be filled with ecstasy, joy, and wonder.

Of course, when we sit back, we understand that that is unreasonable nonsense.

As I've explained many times in this blog before, Daniel Kahneman won the Nobel Prize for the peak-end rule of describing and defining how memories are constructed.

Memories are not the average of the things themselves but the average of the peak parts (good or bad). 

In the end, how you finish something is at least as important as how you experience it in the moment but that is perhaps by the by. 

When you're on the verge of extraordinary, the best thing to do is to dampen your expectations and just let life happen.

All the preparations are made for the next three weeks, pretty much. All I have to do is let it happen to me, and whatever happens will turn out to be memories that I'm likely never to forget for the rest of my life, whichever way the coin falls.
