72hrs later

Last Friday was the end of another cohort of year-long delegates, but it was a bit different this time.

This was 2023 Year One cohort one (we currently do two cohorts per year and will potentially move to three cohorts in 2025).

But this was the first cohort who sat the ITI exam at the end of year one of the Foundation Level Curriculum.

We all had Prosecco and scones and a little celebration after 100% of delegates (plus some returning year one delegates) had sat and passed the exam – a massive win for us.

I was chatting to the delegates as we were looking at certificates and taking photographs, and I realised on the top left of the certificate are the hours of CPD that they are accredited for as part of the year one course.

72 hours.

Seems like a lot.

It's a lot, a lot more than that.

Seventy-two hours matches the six hours per day for 12 days that we assign for verifiable CPD on a course like this, which we can show and log and receipt, etc.

But that is not where the value lives, is it?

It's 1000 conversations at coffee breaks, lunch breaks and course meals.

It is 100,000 interactions on Slack.

Its cases posted, and discussions with friends and peers in a safe place.

It's placing your first implant or watching someone else place their first implant while you nurse and are under less stress or watching from the video upstairs while someone else places an implant and someone assists when you are detached and abstract and can decide how you would have done it or how you may have done it better or worse, depending upon the circumstances.

It's all the questions that were asked by someone else whose answers you listen to; it was all the lines on a whiteboard at the start of every single day to make sure you never missed a trick and never missed the thing you wanted to learn.

Seventy-two hours of verifiable CPD is exponentially greater than 72 hours.

The next cohort starts in January if you're interested; it's very different from what we started all those years ago.

See you soon.
