It's almost 10 years ago since I was riding my bike around the countryside of Nottinghamshire singing Bloodstream by Ed Sheeran to myself in the middle of an Ironman.
I was cycling at about 90 miles in, had a marathon still to run, my legs really, really hurt, and I was shouting at myself, asking myself, "Why have you bothered to do this? What were you thinking?"
But that's the point, isn't it? If it had been easy, I wouldn't have remembered it; it wouldn't still feel so special 10 years later.
Man, I thought I would always do that, and I never did it again.
I can still look back personally and be proud of what I achieved because I had young children, I was trying to run a business, and I managed to get myself into some sort of shape to do something I was proud of, even though for a lot of the time I thought I'd never even cross the finish line and that's the story, isn't it?
Whatever it is that we're doing, whatever it is that seems really difficult, whatever it is that we think we might not get to the end of, these are the things we'll treasure the most 5 years from now.
If you're in the middle of a project (whatever that project is) and it feels really hard, turn up again tomorrow and the day after and the day after and then all of a sudden, you're basking in the glory of something that was actually worth it.
