Narrative Parachutes

Something happens, and it's right in front of your face, and then the next thing that happens is you create a story about that, something that has happened.

What few of us really understand is that that's the bit that we have the most control over.

We have the ability to paint it as a crisis, an opportunity or just a thing.

It doesn't have to be set up to be something that is an insult to us, a problem for us or a crisis.

Almost all the time, it can be something that we say it is based upon the narrative that we create.

Storytelling is one of the most important skills I can think of both in terms of keeping a team together or running a business or a boy's football team, or just being able to tell yourself that everything is actually OK, even when on the face of it, it doesn't look as OK as you would like.

We use narratives like parachutes after we fall out of the plane to slow us down, keep us safe, and make us feel that everything is going to be OK.

It's fine to do that.

No, it's actually essential to do that.
