Job interview

There is that philosophy that you should never tell people that, as a couple, you're expecting a baby until after the 12-week scan. That's because if something terrible happens in the first three months (and there is a reasonable risk of that), you might want to keep it to yourselves and not have to share your distress and upset every time you meet someone.

But there is another side to that coin, isn't there? 

The fact that people who are close to you or people that you like you would tell that you were pregnant anyway because you would want them to know your heartache or your trouble afterward so that they could talk to you about it and you could share your thoughts.

And so, I think I'll probably tell you about my job interview next Thursday, although I felt I should keep it to myself in case nothing happened, and then I could keep 'my failure' a secret.

When I was in Switzerland a few weeks ago (I wrote about it in a blog here), I did some presentations to the ITI around the subjects of our business course and our online nurses' course, and various other things we're doing, including a video production project for the ITI. 

As a result of that, I was invited to apply for a job.

So, this is, without any shadow of a doubt, the most significant job that I've ever applied for or been involved in or seen, and there is absolutely no guarantee in any way of me getting this.

It's a global position, and I'm told that there were a lot of applicants (although I was invited to apply). I've been shortlisted to the final 4 for a job interview next week on Zoom.

I've had to submit my thoughts on a thought exercise about the position, and it comes with lots of bells and whistles (although there is no salary because it's a voluntary organisation!).

The funny thing is, though, I've not had a job interview properly since 1996, and I'm unsure how to do it.

I guess the only thing that I can think about is to say how I would like to do things and to see whether that fits with them and then be happy with the fact that I've got a fantastic thing going on here and if the worst thing I have to do is pay more attention here than to anything else that will not be a disaster.

I've got full permission from my wife to apply for the job and to go for it and full permission from the team at the practice.

It will distract me in one direction, but we will gain a considerable amount in another if it happens to come off.

And so, wish me luck.
