Back in the day, I was out and about all the time. I would be lecturing here for someone or over there for someone else. I would be travelling to talk at an ITI study club, speaking on someone's implant course, or speaking to students in London.
I longed for the chance to be an 'international speaker' to be invited to speak somewhere else because that would look better on my website or my Facebook profile, although the opportunity never really came.
Ultimately, I crossed that barrier properly in 2018, and then I've had the opportunity to go to different places since then, but I find more and more that I don't get out quite as much as I used to.
So, in the next few months, I'm round and about in different places, and I just tell you where I am in case anybody who reads this is around so that they can tap me on the shoulder and say hi.
One of the great joys about getting the chance to go anywhere else is the people that you meet, the people that you get to talk to, and the ideas and the opportunities that you share.
And so next month is more busy than months usually are.
On the 8th of November, I'll speak at the Lothian Independent Dental Practitioners Group for a whole day on dental business (with a bit of ridge preservation in the middle).
If you're around in Edinburgh or associated with that group, why not come along and say hi?
After that, on Friday, the 22nd of November, I was speaking all day at The Campbell Academy (I don't do all day speaking at The Campbell Academy much anymore).
I'll be talking on our Aesthetic Masterclass, which has been completely redeveloped and rewritten, having been first presented five years ago.
It'll talk about everything from immediate to late implant placement in the anterior zone and how we can all try to assess patients in a better way, understanding our skills and their expectations to get the best results for implants at the front of the mouth—always a challenging subject, always a fascinating one to talk about.
I'll give the second lecture at the Learning from Failure Conference the following day.
That will be a one-time talk for only 20 minutes or so about how dark and terrible it actually really was when we were building the practice, going bankrupt, and trying to navigate covid.
There are much better speakers on that list, including Eddie the Eagle, Sue Storey, John Gibson and others, and you should have a look at it.
It's an extraordinary day, and you can come to the ball in the evening if you want.
The week after that, I'm in Oman on the 29th of February, doing a very similar day to the one I did for Lothian Dental Practitioners on dental business and all aspects, including vision, setting, finance, marketing, strategy, sales and human resources.
I'm not expecting you to travel to Muscat to say hi, but I know that people from different places read this, and someone's already asked if they can meet there.
On the 6th of December in the afternoon, I'll be in Birmingham at Aston University, talking to the Midlands DFT group on oral surgery in practice for a short while and then entrepreneurship.
Again, if you're around, it would be great to see you, and then it'll be Christmas.
I don't have too much booked after that for the first three months of the year.
So if you're around and about, or any of those dates converge, maybe see you there.
