It's always easier with a mask!

In an hours’ time (this blog publishes at 6pm on Saturday) the TCC Annual Halloween Ball will get underway at the Park Plaza in Nottingham.

It is 5 years since our first ball and this is our 6^th and tonight we might go over £50,000 worth of money raised in that time for the different charities we have and do support.

This year the charities that we support are:

The Children’s Bereavement Centre

It is compulsory fancy dress at our ball and it always will be (there was one year we had an exception to this and it didn’t work and we learned and we changed).

My mask will be made up of makeup but it will be a mask.

It is always easier with a mask.

You put a mask on when you see patients in your surgery and become “the professional”.

I’ll have a mask on when I stand up and speak to people at the start of the ball.

The funny thing about that conversation that I am asked to have by my team at the start of the night is that I really, really, really don’t want to do it.

It makes me nervous writing about it now, let alone standing up, but it is something that I have to do, so I put on a mask and manage.

It is exactly the same thing that happens when I teach or lecture to people and it is why it is exhausting, because it is always exhausting to wear the mask.

This year the ball has moved venue back to its original venue from 5 years ago and we have cut the numbers to 180.

We sold out weeks ago, which is exactly what we wanted.

We’re not interested in a ball with 500 or 1000 people, we just want a small tribe of people who come, understand what it is all about and have a brilliant time.

I think this will be the best one yet.

Not only does the ball help us to raise tons and tons of cash for charities and people who are much less fortunate than us, but it is also a brilliant opportunity for people in our team to stand up and step up to organise, not only the ball but all of the charity activities that we undertake.

I am so privileged in my work that I don’t have to get involved in that because so many people want to take it forwards on my behalf.

The ball now represents one of the shining lights in our “why” of our business about making a difference to people outside of ours.

It will be in the same place at the same time next year and there will only be 180 spaces and I would love you to come.
