A problem down the track

A conversation the other day with Millie at the Practice.

She was desperate to get back into work (she started working in our Marketing department on recommendation at the start of this year and has been brilliant).

Millie decided to work with us instead of going to University.

In a conversation she opened my eyes to a different perspective on the whole COVID-19 situation.

She said to me “mine is the generation that will have to pay for this”.

That feels rough I’m sure.

Many people of Millie’s age (18) are locked at home, many of them in a single room to get away from the people who they would usually be able to get away from at this stage in their lives.

They realised that society has a problem and they understand that people are going to be paying for it for generations.

The clever ones also appreciate that in their demographic (below 45 years old) death rates have actually fallen through this period not risen so they have been shut away from their ability to earn and to learn and to socialise and to grow to protect the over 45’s.

Clearly that's a sacrifice that people were prepared to make (for a while) but these guys are at the bottom of the pay food-chain and it’s only so long they will be prepared to sit on their hands.

So much to consider and so many situations to overcome as we go forwards but one of the important things we must do is make sure that we have taken care of the health and the mental health of the people of that age.

It’s another learning point for me though.

Everybody’s perception of COVID-19 is different, everyone’s bias is altered, and everyone’s concerns are bespoke.

We should always remember that as we walk past people in the street and try to be tolerant and understand that everybody pain comes from a different place.
