Mistaken Self Congratulation

When you build, create or make something that you think is fantastic it’s easy to believe that everyone else will flock to it, congratulate you, or hold you up as an example to others. Sometimes, and in fact a lot of the time, that isn’t true and when you’re trying to create good things you have to ‘slay a few dragons’ in order to find a magical thing.

It seems to be this way with the DES conference.

This year we are promoting our second DES conference which will take place on June 21st. It’s been two years since the first one which was fantastic and a huge success (I felt). The format is something pretty different as far as one day dental conferences are concerned.

It centres around a fantastic location and really nice food (particularly scones – hence the title Dental Education and Scones).

The real trick here though is the 18 minute lectures on various different subjects which are quite disruptive and unusual.

The subjects range in a wide variety. You can see the speakers here and here

The discussions between speakers and the discussions on the breaks are also stimulated by the content of the lectures.

No A, B, C or D here. This is creative education, stimulation and inspiration.

If you’re looking for a course or a day of CPD that will tick your IMMER box or perhaps your GDPR box then you’re better off looking somewhere else. This is a day for people who want to think a little bit more widely, a little bit bigger, people who find dentistry interesting and want to find it more interesting by listening to people who are interesting.

The details are here if you want to book.

It might be the last time we do this because it seems hard to attract people to this.

When we did it the first time I thought it would become the biggest thing in dentistry, but then I’ve only had about 100 situations like that in the past 5 years. Many times I’ve been proven completely wrong when I thought I had created something great and I was the only one who thought that.

DES 2018 is a thing though and we would love to see you there.
