The Hunger Games - Mockingjay Part 1
Literally I waited a year for this. The opportunity to take my girls Grace and Rosie to the cinema and share the experience of this film.
For any of you who pass off the story of The Hunger Games as a teenage romance or a Twilight Saga style movie, I am sorry but you are entirely wrong.
The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel, perhaps not quite as highbrow as 1984 or Brave New World, but highbrow enough.
The films are no exception and are art in their own right. If you read the Di Vinci code and began to understand that symbols are everywhere and film makers, writers, musicians and artists try to tell us things that we should already know, then this is evident particularly in this film.
I was particularly taken by the line of Finnick Odair, the handsome winner of The Hunger Games whose body had been sold by President Snow (that was his prize), when he told Katniss "it takes ten times longer to put yourself back together than it does to fall apart".
This isn't a 3D film, it's not in Imax and it's not all action but it is a wonderful start to the conclusion of the story and a wonderful experience for me to have with my kids. If you didn't read the books, read the books and if you didn't see the first two films then see them and then watch the third!
