When you're poaching an egg, it doesn't do to prod it and poke it, to ‘move it along a bit’.

You put it in the pan, turn it on, and let it poach until it's done.

This is a useful metaphor, particularly these days when our anxiety and our urgency makes us want to fiddle with things all the time to improve them, make them better, make them faster.

Sometimes, in fact, probably more often than we think, it's better to let it poach.
