Life, at least modern life, it turns out, is just a series of projects.
Project number one
I'd like to finish Operation Suicide, the bedside book that I've been reading since January. All I have to do is do the work, read the book, and finish the project.
Project Number Two
I would like to complete this complicated case that I'm doing at work on this wonderful old lady that I'm treating. All I have to do is plan the case, execute the case, make sure the patient is looked after, monitor, treat, deal with any mishaps I might have, and I'll get to the end of the project.
Project Number Three
In the end, I would like to expand my business out of sight to influence as many people as possible, as widely as we can, with our values and philosophy.
All I have to do is set the project and do the project.
The project is the project, the project is the work.
Everything is divided into a project these days; that's how life works.
The jigsaw you're doing is about putting the pieces in the right place over a period of time to create an extraordinary picture, to complete the project, and to start the next project.
Once you see that doing the job on a day-by-day basis is part of the bigger picture, part of the bigger project and you can celebrate the work that you do which moves towards this, it means you don't have to complete everything every day because you know that what you're doing is moving in the correct direction.
