The distance between new and good

More and more, and particularly in my working life, there is a difference between new and good.

New sells all the time.

New creates FOMO. 

New creates growth, but there is so much new everywhere now, isn't there? New technology, AI, digital planning, CBCT, intraoral scanning, practice software, accountancy software, HR tracking, blah blah blah blah blah.

Even outside of this, you've got lots of work to do on our new house, so we have magnetic doors or high-tech HD CCTV or full house internet capability, or central heating that's controlled per room, etc, etc. 

The problem with the chase for new is that it stops you from trying to be good.

You only have a second to practise something, and then it's gone because you're on to the next thing.

Now, more than ever, the focus on what you're doing, on your direction, on your endgame is critical. The distraction is terrifying.
