In case you may have been under some sort of misconception that there were commodities in the world that were more important than time.
Allow me to put you straight.
Take a piece of A4 paper, portrait style.
Draw two lines to separate the page into three sections, so that it's 3 vertical sections (the lines are horizontal).
In the first section at the top of it, write 1 month.
In the 2nd section, write 1 year.
And in the 3rd section, right, 5 years.
Now imagine that you've been told that that's how long you have to live: a month or 1 year or 5 years.
Get a cup of coffee or a cup of tea and sit down for 10 minutes and write in each of the sections what you would do if you found out that news, then reflect and decide what the most important commodity is.
The crazy thing now is that we imagine that we have no time; I always imagine that I am too busy and that my time is constricted.
Truth is, we have all the time we ever had. We just choose to use it in ways which at times are frankly ridiculous.
We give away our time in the pursuit of status so easily and so freely, only to receive something in return which is effectively completely worthless.
We don't have a plan or a vision, or an idea of why we're here, so we just scatter our time willingly, left, right, centre, everywhere.
We sit in front of the box for hours and hours and hours, not realising that when we get to the other end, we’ll really, really wish we had that time back.
Mostly, though, in the diary, we never ever give ourselves the space to think, to assess or to reassess, or to think again why we're using our time on this or that.
Even if you have a terrible boss who cracks a whip, or even if you're in a relationship which is hard to control, there are still huge elements of your life that are within your control, and where do you have the time to think and make a difference?
Our diaries are ours, not someone else's; what we choose to do defines us. It creates the person we become and the change that we want (or don't want) to make.
