Today and tomorrow this week, Tom and I and Colin Burns are at The Scottish Dentistry Show.

It's a joy to be here, 20 minutes from my mum and dad's house, the chance to stay with them and go out for dinner with them, and to 'work', chatting and speaking to people and stuff.

It's surprisingly tiring, though, game face on, chatting to different people because, effectively, what we have is a market stall.

This is probably as close as you get to the bazaar in Morocco as a guy from the west of Scotland, standing, advertising and offering your wares to people who walk past, maybe interested, maybe not, trying to find the right way to speak to people who might be interested, talking to other market traders, looking for opportunities, trying to make it 'worth your while' to be in the market in the first place.

This is sales in its truest sense; it's raw. The people who come past you are not forced to be interested in any way, and so what you're trying to do is pan for gold and sift through people who might be interested in working to improve themselves in your area of work with people like you.

It's a low hit rate, different to targeted marketing, but it's exciting and interesting and full of energy and full of laughs and full of joy.

It's been ages since I've done one of these; Tom, Millie, and Nancy at our place do these generally, The Dentistry Show in Birmingham, the ITI shows, those types of things, and so to be back into this world, makes me feel younger, like back to where we started.
