The AI accent

It's pretty easy to tell that I'm Scottish from the minute that I open my mouth.

(Unless you're American and you confuse me for Irish!)

The same is true for someone who comes from America, Canada or Australia. It's pretty easy to tell the part of the world that people come from because of their accent.

Funny thing is that the Scottish accent is one of the most trusted accents based on research published by the BBC relatively recently.

It's a weird thing that I don't quite get, but certainly it seems to work, and so accents are important, and we have a preconceived idea of the person that we meet when we hear them opening their mouth.

Same is true for AI slop though, isn't it?

I had an email from a trusted friend and colleague the other day, but they hadn't edited it quite properly, and the first line of the email read,

"Here is a warm, clear reply you could send:" What do I think about that?

The email itself was useful; it had the information that I'd asked my friend for, but I was a little bit crestfallen.

If you, if you're asking AI to answer all your emails, are you really looking? Are you really checking? Are you really paying attention?

It is important here to give full disclosure that this blog was typed by Maisie after I had dictated it (in the same way that my emails are).

In my mind, that's better, not worse. Two people have checked it, not one.

Chicco is coming to Nottingham

This October, we’ll be welcoming Dr Chicco from Tanzania to The Campbell Clinic for his first visit to the UK.

To celebrate, we’ve launched Buy a Mile, asking our community to buy as many miles of his 4,745-mile journey as they can. Every £1 donated represents one mile, with every penny raised going directly to Bridge2Aid and its dental education work in Tanzania.

Buy a Mile and support Bridge2Aid here
