In a world where everything should be a Ta-dah moment as quickly as possible, it's really, really tough to see the long term.
It's hard to commit to a day of work which seems silent and unnoticed, which will only bear fruit (if it actually does bear fruit) a long time from now, but chasing the Ta-dah every day, the quick win, the glory moment is a sure-fire way from focusing on the short term.
The problem is that the short term is just multiple little pieces that make up the long term, and if you haven't concentrated on what is coming over there, it will be at you before you know it, and you'll be busy just trying to achieve some shiny, bright object moments, which don't really add up to a fat lot.
