One of the things that we clearly understand at The Campbell Clinic Campbell Academy is the concept of product life cycle.
Product life cycle is the need to reinvent your product, yourself, and your structures or systems as they become old, tired, safe, non-innovative, and low-value. This happens at different rates for different products and different systems, but it always happens.
And so now it's very, very rare to see a product which is exactly the same as it was when it was launched even 5 or 10 years ago, let alone 25 years ago, very, very few things stand the test of time now, they constantly have to be reimagined and evolved and improved and reinvigorated.
This is absolutely true with all of our educational offerings, and it's also clear that other education providers who don't do that begin to struggle because they feel like they've invented something once and then can stick with what they've got.
When you're looking at progressive educational systems, you want to take a group of people (a tribe) to bring them into a safe place to learn, and then enable and develop them forward to become better versions of themselves until, ultimately, they become better versions than you.
The only way to do this is to stretch the system and continue evolving, updating, and improving.
And with that in mind, we developed our world-class masterclasses, where we bring in speakers (at significant expense) for our tribe of people in the Academy to be able to learn from some of the very best in the world.
What you've seen with implant dentistry over the years is that there are people who have established themselves at the top of that tree on the 'lecture circuit', people who continue to get invited to conferences or individual speaker days again and again because their reputation precedes them and because they achieve things in the past, or continue to achieve things moving forwards but some of them are static and some of them present the same material at the conference that they do on the teaching day, and then it feels a little bit less innovative than it should.
For us, the person who broke the mould here in the first instance was Michael Bornstein in 2015 when he came to talk about CBCT. Michael has now been coming for 10 years or more, but his presentations, his lectures, and his subject have changed dramatically, and part of it is now focused on the AI reporting of CBCT and the collection of images.
We moved on from that, and it's fair to say that we have trials of different people and if you've kept and paid attention, you'll know that some people don't exist in the chat that we have anymore because we tried them based on reputation, it didn't work and they didn't return.
The biggest game changer for us probably was Rony Jung. He came to see us in 2022 and attends again for the 4th year this year.
Rony is that guy who understands product development and life cycle, and so Beatriz and I have spent a considerable amount of time entirely redesigning Rony's course (which has been one of our most successful external courses) over the past few months, because 3 or 4 years into that course, it's needs to be altered and changed.
The most impressive person that we've booked over the last few years, the most inspirational and the one we're most excited about moving forward, is Oscar Gonzalez.
Oscar Gonzalez is one of these guys who is an overnight success in 25 years, he has an extraordinary backstory of how he learned implant dentistry and how he became one of the first exponents of the perio/pros training pathway, one of the guys who understood 20 years ago that to be brilliant at surgery, you had to be a brilliant periodontist, but in order to be brilliant at implant dentistry, you had to be a brilliant restorative dentist.
He trained in these areas in America and Switzerland, and then returned to his native Madrid to become one of the world's most skilled exponents of his craft.
Not only is Oscar the most extraordinary clinician and researcher, but he is also an extraordinary educator, with educational material which is out of sight of almost anything you will see.
For that reason, it's not that easy to get him, but pulling all our strings, including the connection with the Spanish ladies who work at the practice (Maria, Beatriz and Sonia) and also the ITI connection, Oscar has consented to come and see us in January for a two-day masterclass.
This will be an extraordinary exploration into the world of perio/pros, the likes of which we've not had here before, but absolutely the direction that implant dentistry has moved and is moving in going forward.
You may not have heard of Oscar Gonzalez if you're an implant clinician, but if you pay close attention, you most certainly will, he is absolutely one of the hottest properties in implant dentistry, one of the greatest talents and as I say, to many people seems to have just appeared on the scene, but has only just appeared on the scene because he's been here for the longest time, going about his business and doing things in an amazing fashion.
He will bring the interface between soft tissue management and restorative dentistry to life, provisionalization of crowns, design of restorations, in conjunction with creating the most extraordinary biological circumstances.
If you want to be better at that, this is where you would go, and this is who you would see but what makes these masterclasses different is this entire immersion for two days with the speaker that you only normally see on the main stage at a congress, the chance to ask any question or to push things in any direction, the opportunity to be both formally educated and informally educated at the same time, the chance to share the dinner table with a small group of people with someone who is completely inspirational.
If you're interested, the details are all here.
As is generally the case, these masterclasses go quickly (there is a reason for that), but I hope you'll think about joining us, it's hard to think you would leave this without being extraordinarily inspired.
