The trick is not to finish, the trick is to know when to finish.

My to-do list - never empty.

My inbox - never empty.

My clinical task list - never empty.

My Asana project management list - never empty.

My Evernote list - never empty.

My countless paper lists that I revert back to when everything else is too busy – never empty.

Today was an office day. I love these days.

I got up this morning, went to Physio to try to rebuild my broken knee then had my breakfast at home before coming to work.

I had a walk around the practice to see everybody and say “hi” then went to my office and battered through loads and loads of stuff on my lists.

There comes a point though when you’re finished, even though you’re nowhere near finished.

I know it seems that none of us have the privilege to be able to do this, but we do.

Know when to stop. When grinding through is not getting you anywhere then it’s no use.

Rearrange tomorrow or tonight and go and do something else.

It’s not failure, it’s clever.

That’s where longevity comes from.
