In the olden days, well, not so olden days, making a difference used to be valuable.
It used to scale.
If you solved a problem for someone, which was causing a real issue, they would tell their friends about it, and then they would start to do the same thing, buy the same product or act the same way. That way, a really good idea could make a difference.
Nowadays, the world is turned on its head a bit more. More and more people jump because they're scared, they're missing out, without actually thinking whether it makes a difference. And so, if you get paid, that makes a difference, but just to you, and if you're not making a difference to someone else, but you're getting paid, then that works at least for a while.
It would be nice to get back to the situation where, when you did something valuable, it had a positive impact on other people, which was seen as something worthwhile.
We're far away from that in many parts of our lives. Every man for himself, there’s an end to this, but none of us are likely to enjoy it until it gets to the other side.
