Maybe you'll have one chance to make a difference today, whatever that difference is.
Maybe just one opportunity to be a hero.
Maybe that one opportunity you have today will be the last chance you get, even though you don't realise it.
We imagine that we'll get to walk off the stage at the end to a massive round of applause and a standing ovation, and we'll come back a couple of minutes later with a standing ovation again before we finally finish.
I think, in actual fact, that's not how it goes for most people.
You don't really realise it was your last chance.
You did it, didn't think about it, and never got the chance again.
Do you think all the interactions might be your last one? All the chances to be a hero, where you'll never get the chance to be a hero again, is a much better way to live than thinking that you're going to get to bow out gracefully with as many hero opportunities as you want.
