Guilt doesn't make it any better; experience makes it better, but that is learning from when you were guilty.
Repairing it makes it better, or at least tries to; that's fixing the problem that made you guilty in the first place, and commitment to try to be better going forward.
Try to be better tomorrow than you were yesterday; it doesn't always work, but it absolutely beats the alternative.
