Seeing a bit of this around recently made me think and reflect on me and us and here.
When it goes well, Founders Syndrome is amazing, a driving force that takes things forward to levels that they might never have reached, the creation of something magical, something that didn't exist before.
When it goes wrong, though (and it often does), I found it clings on to something that they shouldn't cling on to, was unable to step aside long past the time when it was right to do so, is unable to pass control, authority, responsibility to people who can take the thing that they built and make it better, more special, more impactful. At its worst, it's toxic, but the founder does anything to keep control.
I've looked around in different places now since I saw it around my own world; there's a lot of that about.
Self-awareness, humility, and reality must be applied here to avoid the worst possible outcomes.
