Finding your spot

When you travel to a festival or outside gig, concert, or show, there is often a tension or anxiety until you have found yourself a place to put down your blanket and “make camp”.

This is normal; most of us get this.

It's the same as turning up on holiday to a new destination or getting through security at the airport to the lounge.

The metaphor applies to life too and work.

We are often “looking for our spot”, and we suffer things we don’t like or places we don’t fit to get there in the end.

This is the bit that is hard to explain to some of the younger generations who are in such a hurry to “make a difference” way before they have even figured out where their spot is, let alone sat down at it for any length of time.

With all this in mind, this week I definitely found a spot of mine.

I travelled to Bale on Monday, tough trip as I left TCC at 1 pm to get the train to Manchester Airport. Nightmare journey as our trains often are, only to find that the priority security I had paid “twice” for was closed, so an hour waiting for that.

Flight to Zurich, then train to Basel; arrive in Hotel room at 23:30GMT.

After that, the trip is wonderful, surrounded by so many amazing, inspiring people, not least Katalina, Martin, Thomas and Odetta from ITI HQ (Brilliant, brilliant people).

I met Rony Jung at his place and then flew to Madrid to present to over 40 Straumann educators from all over the world on the subject of beginner education.

I'm home super early tomorrow via Paris, but I found my spot.

So often the travel seems hard and exhausting, but not this time.

Maybe I am just finding the right people.
