What are you waiting for?

I saw Seth Godin do this when he lectured recently so let's try it here.

Put your hand up as high as you can (and I mean as high as you can)

Let's start again... actually do this where you're sitting. Put your hand up as high as you can.........

Now put it up a bit higher.

Since I saw Seth do this test I have trialled it at various lectures I have been at and it doesn't cease to amaze me each time I try it now. Nobody puts their hand up as high as they can the first time.

The only people that do this are children under the age of about 7 and after that they have been thoroughly indoctrinated into the ways of modern society which is to be scared and take no risks.

The other day I went to see Mumford and Sons in concert in Nottingham (you really must see them, they are incredible) and their version of Sweet Dreams with Jack Garratt was one of the best things I have seen on stage.

It is interesting though because everybody is self conscious and doesn't want to stand up to dance but then one person does, the person beside them does and then my wife does and I do. I knew I was going to do it but I still felt self conscious enough not to do it for the first little while, after which time I did stand up and it made things so much better. It strikes me though that we are all doing this all the time, not putting our hands up as high as we can and not standing up to dance. What exactly are we waiting for?

When the time runs out, in whatever it is, you will wish you had put your hand up higher and you will certainly wish that you danced more.
