On Travelling…

A secret admitted, I hate travelling (for work)

It’s time to plan the year ahead and already there are some trips to make. Some of them are inevitable and are through choice and enjoyable but in general trips for work I hate.

I used to think this would be impressive. I used to think it would be exciting. I used to think it would be status symbol. I used to think I would have made it when people would pay for me to travel. I used to think hotels would be glamorous, they’re not. I used to think trains would be luxurious, they’re not. I used to think I would seem important, I don’t, I used to think it would make me clever and set me apart, it doesn’t.

Some of the greatest impact you can make is closest to home and the way the world is, the way technology intersperses through all of our lives it is possible to make a huge ruckus without moving a meter.

The biggest drawback of travelling for work is the emotional labour that the travelling itself exerts upon you. It’s the tiredness on the arrival home. It’s the affect it has on every other aspect of your life.

Over the past 18 months I have given away some serious commitments in my life which centered around travelling. I won’t stop travelling but I will be much more selective in the things that I travel for. It will be impact based only and not money based.
