TBOB – The Business of Business (of dentistry)

A little while ago I posted a blog about a course that we intend on running next year at relatively short notice called ‘Building the modern, independent dental practice business’ but it has been nicknamed by me as ‘TBOB’.

It’s been on my mind to try and produce something like this for a considerable period of time but it only came to life after a discussion with Gary Marvin, the Sales Director at Straumann when he said he wanted to put some of his clients on the course.

With that in mind, there is an opportunity through Straumann to gain a reduced ticket price for this course if you are a significant Straumann user. If you might be interested in this it would be best to contact your local rep to see if you qualify.

I wanted to produce something that was like a year-long implant course only related to the business of dentistry. I feel we have enough contacts and expertise within the practice to be able to provide something extremely helpful to people trying to run their own practice and trying to navigate the minefield of all the different disciplines involved.

With that in mind the course will be structure very differently to anything we have done before. It runs throughout the year, starting in February and finishing in October. It has 6, 2-day modules covering different aspects. It will be linked heavily to an online discussion forum where only course delegates and moderators will be have access and it is anticipated that this will become a living, breathing thing which will allow exchange of ideas and views throughout the course.

We will also be tying the course in with 4 structured online training exercises which will be deadlined and have to be completed as part of the overall course. These will be submitted after a video conference call with the group together discussing concepts in finance, marketing, HR and strategic planning . At the end of the course you will have designed some appropriate documentation for your own practice including a full P&L spreadsheet with specific dental key performance indicators, a marketing plan, a HR and appraisal plan and a strategic development plan for the next three years. This will be tied in with discussions in the online forum and backed up by the teaching days with experts from around dentistry.

The course is designed for Principals to attend with the Practice Manager (lead administrator) to come in pairs although additional spaces for specific days will be available at no extra charge for attendees who are involved in that specific type of work in the practice (for example your marketing coordinator can attend the marketing day also)

We still have some spaces left on this course, although I was staggered at the interest shown in it from one single teaser blog post. At the time of writing there are 5 places left out of the initial 12.

If you would like further information on this or are keen to secure a please then please contact Tom Reason, The Campbell Academy Manager – 0115 9823919 info@campbellacademy.co.uk

Every Monday for the next few weeks I am going to write about a different subject that we will be teaching on the course to allow you to understand the type of topics we will cover.
