Today I was scheduled to be in Newbury to run with Ben. Why don't you read about Ben properly here?
In case you couldn't be bothered - today Ben runs his 388th consecutive marathon. He is running a marathon day on day which will end on a total of 401 thirteen days from now.
This was brought to my attention by Patrick Allen in May at the BDA Conference and I signed up to run the marathon with Ben, Patrick, Chris Barrow and others today in Newbury but personal circumstances overcame me and late last night it became obvious that I wouldn't be able to travel. That was also compounded by the fact that it's hard to run a marathon when you can no longer run! But I had intended to take my bike and cycle around with the guys, support Ben, donate to the charities and just generally be around when something brilliant happened that has not had as much exposure as it should.
It was just the way today that I couldn't go (reasons not required - note to self: don't steal the blog!)
This blog is about Ben who I have never met but hoped to meet today. It's about a guy who decided to make a difference after things had happened to him that weren't good. It's about a guy who did make a difference.
I hope you might click on the link and read the website (for the uninitiated the links are always in pink).
I hope you might see if his story touches your heart and if it does, I hope you might think it would be worth donating a bit of money to help him get to his £250,000 target.
I am sorry I didn't get to meet Ben today.
I am sorry I didn't get to bask in his brilliance.
I salute him from here.
The link to his donation page is here.
(Patrick - for the last time... i'm sorry I couldn't come)
