Refusing free stuff (particularly food)

It is beginning to amaze me – people’s obsession with obtaining things which are ‘free’.

This first came to my mind when I was attending a concert and was in hospitality with my wife and I had decided not to drink that evening so that I could better enjoy the concert and not wake up with a cracking sore head the next day. The waiting staff were generally dumbfounded at my response at not accepting alcohol that was “free”. Of course, I had already paid for the alcohol (through the nose) and even to me it seemed ridiculous to be refusing the ‘all you can drink buffet’. But this in fact the point. I had actually paid for the tickets, to spend a night with my wife and to see the concert, I hadn’t paid to get rat arsed and to wake up feeling crap the next morning but the urge to accept the ‘free’ stuff was almost overwhelming.

I find myself doing this anywhere we go somewhere which is pre-paid and perhaps it is my upbringing but I have another overwhelming urge to eat as much as I can because the food is available.

It is time to get inside my head that gone are the days of all you can eat pizza and I am now lucky enough to be able to afford to eat or drink pretty much when I want which will perhaps lead to me eating and drinking less.

There is a price to pay for all the ‘free’ stuff and there is a difference between ‘eat as much as you want’ and ‘eat as much as you can’
