A polite suggestion for the GDC

In the matter of building an organisation which is based on trust and value based leadership, it is important to create a conciliatory environment with the stakeholders affecting the whole organisation.

For that reason, we would encourage patient feedback, questionnaire patients and discuss and action their suggestions. We also do this with General Dental Practitioners who refer to the practice, staff members of the practice and dental suppliers to the practice. I also do it with my landlord.

This allows us to build an organisation which is trusted with our partners and which can communicate and also recruit within the wider dental community as we are seen as being 'good guys'.

Over the past few years the General Dental Council has not done this.

It has alienated the profession entirely due to its over bearing and aggressive approach and its inability to engage properly with high ranking members of the dental profession. As a result of this the institution of case workers to assess cases it unlikely to result in an overwhelming application of highly qualified, exceptional individuals as they will not wish to work within an organisation where they will see their 'brand damaged'.

So it is that the snake eats its own tail until it gets to its head and then ceases to exist.

Suggestion - create a value based organisation, trusted by both patients and professionals which should attract not only good professionals but also good patients.
