Nasal trauma from the grindstone and the fear of the long term

It’s yet another counter intuitive problem where the harder you press your nose to the grindstone, the more damage occurs to your nose.

The problem with taking your nose off the grindstone is that it’s easier to see the damage this is being caused and the fear that you are less likely to put your nose back on.

The short term gain for short term gratification is a fool’s paradise which ultimately ends up in no gratification at all or the requirement for more and more and more of the same to give less and less gratification. It’s hard for all of us when we’re caught in the rat race to take the time to take our nose off the grindstone and inspect it; to see what damage has been done and resolve to press it less hard to the grindstone and accept a longer term future where inevitably the results come less quickly but in the end they’re of much better quality and much more satisfying.

An old Principal that I used to work for told me that when you get insanely busy at work you need to increase the length of your appointment times instead of decreasing them. That at least was one thing he was correct about.
