To be honest, when we concepted the charity ball three years ago (Marie and I) it was to try to be a catalyst to do something good within dentistry in the East Midlands.

I realise that might sound twee or even conceited but it stems from a conversation I had with my solicitor, who is also a patient at the practice, when we were discussing a charity ball that the lawyers had arranged in Nottingham. I think there are several of these but the one my solicitor is involved in is a big affair, ran every year for the last 25 years and raises a colossal amount of money for local charities and is heavily supported by all the solicitors. It's a great public face of law in Nottingham and shows a caring side which otherwise might not be attached to solicitors in general and is something they do that is really good.

I followed on with a conversation with my accountant Steve Martin from Ashgates and it turns out that accountancy is very similar (incidentally Ashgates have been big supporters of our charity ball over the last two years - thank you!)

So it's with some disappointment that we haven't managed to achieve our goal of attracting more of the profession to the ball and in fact it fills up with many people outside of dentistry.

So I guess this is just a rallying call to dentists to see whether you want to be part of something in the East Midlands that makes a difference locally, at the present time for The Friary Shelter in West Bridgford and globally to Bridge2Aid an amazing dental charity run by Mark Topley.

We try to put it close to Christmas, but not too close, so that people could use it as a Christmas night out. We try to make it great fun so that you can come as a practice. The date is Saturday 19th November.

One of the big supporters we have had is Wollaton Dental Care and Simon and Anna Lawson. Those guys are great and their tables are a huge amount of fun when the ball comes around.
