It turns out that I have blogged about this a lot through the past 500 or 600 posts and the theme keeps coming back but I do like to write about it and even more I like to think about it.
We probably live in the greatest age to be a human that there is with the most comforts and technical assistances we could possibly have. The county we live in is in one of the wealthiest states it has ever been. We all set high up Maslow's hierarchy so why is everybody so miserable? And I do think they’re miserable.
My own greatest issue in trying to be happy is my often perceived lack of time to do things. It's always already late, it's always past the time when something should be done and missing these perceived deadlines is wearing. This of course is our own fault and the much described phenomenon of “time famine” comes from the fact we have an abundance of choice and don’t know what to do with it.
The people I know who are happiest are disciplined in their choices, they’re able to decide the things they would like to do both personally and professionally and focus on those things. They tend to be better at those things too. The whole concept of “that’s just the way life is” just doesn’t cut it with me, we all live in an environment where we can change anything we want and are unlikely to starve to death.
I substituted my addiction for alcohol and nicotine and almost even chocolate with my new addiction for choices and the consequence of that was time famine. On reflection I think the majority of these blogs which are non-clinical relate to that subject FOMO, even Prethics all relate to the fact that we choose to many things which won’t fit into the time available and there is no way of making more time.
