The Bone Clocks – David Mitchell
You can tell it has been a busy year and i’ve been working hard on other projects because I am not able to blog about as many books as I would like.
This is one of the things that disappears when time becomes pressed and the ability to break away from the hectic life of running a practice and being a dentist is lost in the general melee but I did make time for this book on the recommendation of my great friends Ross and Morag Anderson. They bought it for me as a present when I attended their practice in Aberfeldy in Scotland to do some mentoring and Ross though it would suit me (both him and Morag read intensely) and he was not wrong.
It is a game changer and is a totally extraordinary read. In time now I will be reading all of the books he has written because he is clearly a genius. I remember reading a review of this by Chris Barrow when I was just about to start the book and it was much the same as this.
It is described as a metaphysical thriller so there is a bit of the unbelievable about this book but it gets under your skin and into your heart and then constricts it, breaks it and then puts it back together again.
The end is terrifying, I still think about it most days, but the characters are so engaging and there is one part of the book which I read faster than I have ever read anything in my life due to the suspense. I was given it in hard back and it is a beautiful book – something you want to keep forever but also something you want to share with everyone.
For holiday it is fantastic and that’s where I will be taking the rest of his books.
