Wonderful feedback

Last week in the practice for the first time, I met Mike. He was introduced to me by Nish who works with us at the practice.
Nish introduced him to a blog I wrote some time ago about two dentists who were both seeking to recruit relatively new graduates to work with them in their practices.

Mike was introduced to Alex Jones, my friend in Yorkshire and started work there on Monday.

Nish who introduced Mike to the blog invited him to come to the practice to meet us to see what we do and we were able to meet him last week.

When we met Nish initially and he came to work with us after he had acquired a degree in science and a PhD prior to entering dentistry I thought he was one of a kind – that was until he introduced us to his friend who had done exactly the same thing. Mike has a degree in chemistry and a PhD in chemistry gained from Edinburgh University. He is entering dentistry at a slightly later stage than others (I think that is a good thing and not a disadvantage) and he’s committed to the provision of healthcare from a perspective of somebody who doesn’t feel like the world owes him a living.

It’s good for the soul to meet people who are committed to the provision of healthcare with enormous levels of expertise, intelligence and knowledge and it makes me think that in many ways the future of the profession is assured as long as these people take up their position as natural leaders.

The thing is though, that it turns out there are many of these people around in dentistry who are just looking for an opportunity and a chance. I am a great believer of the philosophy of trying to encourage ordinary people to do extraordinary things and I’m sure that when Mike begins his career with my friend Alex, it will be the start of something incredible.
