I’m told that Richard Branson has a man who walks behind him around the functions that he goes to (which I'm sure are high-level).
I've told this many times here over the thousands of blogs, I'm sure.
When anyone asks Richard to his face at these functions whether he would like to attend something else, he says yes.
Allegedly he is enthusiastic, and gregarious, and aggressively positive.
The man travelling behind him, ‘mindsweeping’, has the job of telling the person that he's just spoken to that, in actual fact, he's never coming to the thing he said yes to.
This seems rude, disingenuous, and deceitful.
But it isn't.
Knowing the value of positive interaction but also knowing the value of your time are two very important perspectives to have if you're gonna survive in a world like this.
Almost everyone has an unlimited number of people who are quite happy to ‘eat you’.
Creating the space to think, and to plan, and to be content is brave and clever, not selfish.
More and more now, the answer is to say no to people who are offering me something which I don't really need and don't really want.

Chicco is coming to Nottingham
This October, we’ll be welcoming Dr Chicco from Tanzania to The Campbell Clinic for his first visit to the UK.
To celebrate, we’ve launched Buy a Mile, asking our community to buy as many miles of his 4,745-mile journey as they can. Every £1 donated represents one mile, with every penny raised going directly to Bridge2Aid and its dental education work in Tanzania.
