So, tonight marks the 3000th blog publication of the Colin Campbell blog.

The first blog I published was back in 2011 and one of the very first ones I ever did was this one about 10 reasons why I’m writing a blog.

When I reach a landmark blog like this, I always post that one again just to make sure I’m in the right place.

In more than 10 years I’ve published 3000 blogs with over 500 words on average per blog which is more than 1.5 million words which seems impressive until you realise that almost nobody has read them, and nobody has read all of them (except me).

This was never about being famous or even about being ‘a blogger’, it was a letter to myself over these past 10 years that I could trace back when I had the time and the space, and nobody was looking.

It’s an atelic activity writing the blog.

There’s no plan and no desired outcome or focus, there’s just a desire to share. Sometimes to invite people to things that are cool and some days just to talk about things that are hard (much of the time it’s that).

And so, at the point of 3000 blogs in more than 10 years, what happens next?

I thought, quite seriously, about stopping it here and drawing a line under it and quitting while I’m ahead (even though I’m not in a race so I can’t be ahead).

But I like it, no, I love it and more than that, I love the conversation and interaction it brings.

Although I write it for myself, I love it when it reaches someone else and it does that in all sorts of ridiculous and convoluted ways and then I have wonderful unplanned conversations with people that were never supposed to happen.

Sometimes I get the bright, shiny glow of a massive dopamine hit when someone contacts me and says “several people have read that and it helped” but mostly not and mostly I’m just glad to click along, tick, tick, tick until I can’t anymore.

Someday I might write a book or at least a collection of blog posts like my blog hero, Seth Godin, has done several times but until then I’ve decided not to stop and in fact, I’ve decided to start a bit more.

Over the past few years, we’ve developed two podcasts ‘Incisive Decisive’ with my friend and podcasting tutor, Shaun Sellers and The Campbell Academy podcast with myself but mostly with Andy Legg.

Over the next few weeks and months, I intend to reinvigorate those around the blog topics that we’ve got and various things that we’re doing and further to that I’m going to do a little bit more ‘blogging’ on YouTube just to summarise the stuff that we’re talking about because it’s cool and I enjoy it and it creates more conversations.

Our YouTube page is here and the details for Incisive Decisive are here and The Campbell Academy podcast is here. If you don’t like to read it then maybe you’ll listen to it or maybe you’ll watch it or maybe you’ll do none of those things and it’s totally fine to switch off if it’s not your thing.

But if you’re still here at the bottom of this page then you might be here in 10 years’ time when it rolls over to 6000.

I really hope that I am too.
