25 years of failure

Next week on Wednesday, I'm giving a lecture to the BDA Group in Lincoln.

The title of the lecture, roughly speaking, is "25 Years of Implant Dentistry: Technological and Clinical."

It's a journey through what it was like at the turn of the millennium, when I had been placing implants for approximately 12 months, to what it's like now. And everything that came in between, including scientific advancements, technological advancements, advancements in facilities, patient care, understanding, all of that.

I've spoken at the Lincoln BDA Group before, and in a bizarre chain of events, as I was unpacking boxes in our garage at the weekend from the house move, I found a glass tanker that they presented me with the last time I spoke to them… in 2005.

Much water under that bridge.

Before I do that, though, I'm travelling to a practice on the south coast of England to provide a day's worth of coaching and advice on consultations. It's one of the things that I do now is to fill my time because I don't have anything else to do!

Both of these things are about talking about how many times I've got things wrong and the little bit I've learned from that.

25 years of implant dentistry gives me the chance to talk about all the things that I thought were right, but weren't.

All the things I did that weren't correct and how I learned not to fall into those traps, not to keep falling down the same hole on the same road.

It's the same thing when I go to talk to practices, it's not some standard dazzling epiphany, it's just a, oh yeah, we encountered that, it was really hard, it took us 3 years to make it better, but this is how we did it. Why don't you make it better in 3 months?

On the 22nd of November, we do the Learning From Failure conference again. I've spoken about it here several times, so there are obviously tickets left!

You should definitely come.

It's pretty much how you condense all the failures from all the people who will talk into one small area, and then you learn from them, and then you move on.

This is the secret with coaching, advice, and teaching: you get to fast-track what took other people years or even decades to make better.

Details are here. https://www.campbellacademy.co.uk/learning-from-failure-conference

Hope to see you there.
