5 Years on – Any Difference in Implant Dentistry?

If you are a practice principle and owner who may have been one of the guys who looked at the possibility of implant dentistry 10 or 15 years ago and decided it wasn’t for you, it might be worth taking another look as things are very different now.

When I started implant dentistry back in the 1990’s there was no support and it was totally the way of the ‘weekend warrior’. You did a course for 2 days and then set loose on patients to learn as you went along.

This concept of education terrified some people and put them off entirely. Things have changed a great deal, both in terms of regulation and education.

At The Campbell Academy we have developed a 5 year programme that can support delegates from no experience in implant dentistry all the way through to the application of complex skills and concepts. This is carried out with academic teaching, practical teaching and mentored surgery together with a mentoring scheme which assists delegates in their own practice. This is much more likely to take people into a sustainable implant service within a practice. Improving a business, improving their patient retention and improving an experience for both their teams and their patients within their own environment. It’s much more likely to be like that than it was 15 or 20 years ago. If you tried it back then and it didn’t work for you, perhaps have a look into it again because the majority of ethical dental practitioners in the UK already have the clinical skills to take on implant dentistry, they sometimes just need assistance in taking the leap.
