A really insightful conversation yesterday at work about the people we get married to and why and how we stay married.
I think the same as the people we’re friendly with and how and why and when etc.
My wife (and it turns out many other of my friend’s wives’ that hold similar jobs down) are ludicrously unimpressed by the work that they do.
I think this is because she knew me before I did this work, she’s seen what it’s taken to develop into the individual that I’ve become (whether that’s good or bad) and she understands there will be something after this.
She was here before and she will be here after (I hope) and so that is special and precious.
More often than not we run the risk of surrounding ourselves by people who weren’t here before, who are here right now but only because it suits their purpose and who will scatter at the first sign of trouble.
Every so often it’s worth lifting your head up and wondering if you’re spending your precious time asset on the right things and the right people and readjusting your sights if any of that doesn’t seem quite right.
