When it becomes normal

When you have the privilege of managing to reach some of your goals or achieve some of the success that you envisioned (whatever that might look like), your new position becomes normal.

I vividly remember being stood in the library of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh immediately after being told that I passed my fellowship in surgery and had been admitted as a fellow of the college.

We went for a ‘sherry reception’ and I was immediately struck by the fact that the thing that I had strived for years to achieve was the same thing that everybody else in that room had.

I was no longer striving for something special; I’d elevated myself into a position where everybody had the same as me.

I think this is probably the case when we reach the end of our projects or adventures or stages in our life.

The choice then is to hold and to become comfortable or to go again.
