Wants and needs??

Be careful of the patient who tells you what they want because that might not be the same as what they need.

Patients who ask for 'composite bonding' don't want composite bonding; they want to look like someone who has had aesthetic treatment on their teeth and had told them they had composite bonding.

Patients don't want a dental implant; they want a tooth replacement, but they want the tooth replacement because they want to eat better, or they want to look better or a combination of both.

Understanding the question and looking after patients is the best way to avoid difficult conversations at the other end of treatment.
