When you take your car to the garage for a service or an MOT and you realise that your tyres are bald and unsafe, they need replaces. On an expensive car it can cost £1000 for four tyres. The car goes into the garage with tyres on, you pay £1000 and the car comes out of the garage with tyres on. You don’t notice any difference apart from the fact that you’re £1000 down.
Some purchases are like that, some investments are like that, sometimes for the money you spend you don’t get given a shiny bright object to take away and hold up. You don’t see people driving around stopping at traffic lights and shouting out the window “Hey everybody! Look at my new tyres!!”
Just because what you invest your money in doesn’t give you something you can use to demonstrate your status to the wider tribe does not mean it’s a poor investment. Just because you spend money on making yourself better or safer or something for the long term which won’t come into flower for years to come isn’t a bad option, it’s often the best option.
It would be ridiculous to ignore the advice to change your tyres from someone you trust and spend the money on having your car painted pink so that people would notice you more.
