Disaster, working from home yesterday and I had taken the SD card out of my dictation and left it in my practice!!!

What a D**k!

It meant I had to rummage through the house trying to find a spare SD card, (which I never found) but in my searching of anywhere in the house that it might be, I found the “old electrical devices draw” it exists in the desk in the office.

Maybe you’ve got one of these, tonnes of cables that no one will ever use and charges for old camera batteries and an old Sony video camera recorder, and a couple of old digital cameras.

I picked up the Cannon ixus V2 and laughed out loud.

This was my first clinical camera, and I thought it was the dogs b*****s.

It has 2 mega-pixels (that’s what it says on the lens) and is till have some of the photographs that I took and presented which were truly awful and truly appalling.

I remember speaking with another ITI speaker in Nottingham on a surgical restorative course and then taking their side in counselling me about the standard of my clinical photography! The funny thing was though that even then with the Cannon ixus V2 I was well ahead of everybody else.

5 years later, my clinical photography was better but only because I started 5 years before on something else. 5 years ago, we started the Campbell academy and we decided to build a business based on drop box, because we knew it would be remote working with people in different places.

We effectively stored (on drop box) every presentation that I have ever provided as a group and we now have a library of extraordinary clinical presentations that have been drawn out to help construct other educational resources going forwards.

This week I was planning my sinus grafting lectures for the sinus grafting course coming up, I was able to draw on four previous sinus grafting course material and make sure I had everything to get the message across that I wanted for this particular group, it was brilliant because we thought about it  5 years ago; and it took 5 years to build.

One of the tricks now, is to carve out time for what’s going to be a good five years from now and to plant some seeds and ignore them and let them grow.

We will be glad then that we did, even if now it feels like there’s no time to bother.
