The starter

So, here’s the bizarre thing about, The Starter.

(A Starter is a personality profile, as listed by Kolbe, but is mimicked by Belbin).

I am a Starter, almost entirely.

That is a curse, because the adaptability, is zero and the ability to set a routine and stick to it, is zero too.

I have cleverly (arrogantly said, but I think that it’s true), surrounding myself with people in my organisation who have the skills that I don’t, but that doesn’t help me on a personal level.

These past 2 weeks, I have been trying to kick start my training for an event in October, that now, I will not be fit enough for.

I should be panicking about thing event, but instead I am planning next year’s events!

What a k**b, this is toxic!

I am excited about what I am planning on doing next year, as I was this time last year, when I planned what I was going to do in 2019, and then couldn’t get over the training hurdle.

There is no question that there has been barriers put in the way this year; which I have never put in the way before and I should be happy with where I have gotten to so far, (and in general I am) but the possibility is in the opportunities, next years’ are completely different.

  1. Because they are further away.
  2. Because I am a starter and I am excited about starting.

You might be a starter too? Or you might be a finisher? But if you are a starter, here are a few tips to try and help your temper and the horrendously frustrating character traits that show from your personality.

  1. Find finishers to hold you to account!
  2. Have self-awareness of the fact that, if you start too many things, you’ll do none and it will break you and you will become depressed.
  3. Don’t gamble.
  4. Try not to drink too much (starters can drink a lot).
  5. Try to force yourself against everything in your body, to finish some things and see the satisfaction in that.

What you usually find, is that in order to finish projects, starters go fast, towards the end and decrease their quality.

Very important that you identify this and get your projects finished by somebody who is able to do that.

On a personal note, that will be difficult. It will not be quite satisfying if someone else cycles up the hill in 2020.

What I have done though, is managed to tag in with a few people, that will hold me to account and make me finish what I started.
