25. The Man You Might Have Been - pubished 10.08.2013

This one was published in August 2013. I'd had a very good year that year with the 24-hour bike ride that I participated in together with my best ever performance in the half Iron Man Triathlon but I was on the down and moaning about the fact that I had to go to work instead of perusing my hobbies; then I met a guy you didn’t have to go to work and was certainly not any happier than what I was. I realised that the only thing that would happen if I removed the shackles is I would realise how much I enjoy having the shackles in the first place.

So I finally met him.

The person who, in some quiet times, I would like to be. I only met him for a very brief time and he paid little or no attention to me but I was fascinated and it was a turning point. It was the first time I had ever met him but I found out quite a lot about him because I was so interested.

He married a rich woman, a lawyer, a partner who works 16 hours a day and travels a lot. They have 2 kids and he is a stay at home dad but they have nannies and domestic helpers. He is a ‘photographer’ but doesn’t do an awful lot of photography.

He trains all the time and qualified to compete for GB at triathlon. He is handsome, tanned, spends a fair amount of time cycling in Majorca and is soon to compete in the World Championships.

I sometimes think to myself “I should just give it all up, find somewhere to put implants in 2 days a week and just train and see how far I could get”

I met him and that is what he basically does and I realised that if I did do that I would very quickly want this back.

The proverbial grass is always greener, well not always because I don’t think that grass is greener anymore.
