I use this model when I talk to patients in surgery. When I have someone who's confused about what they might need done, I just pick up a pen and say, "If this were a magic dental wand, and I could wave it and everything were free and everything were possible, what would we do?"
It's a massive icebreaker that starts the conversation, and moving it usually helps to get patients to where they need to be in terms of deciding what they would like and what they need.
It expands the options for treatment plans and possibilities beyond what you can really imagine. As a tool, though, you can use it anywhere, whatever you like, and so one of the places you can use it is in your own business.
If you take a walk along the beach or in the park, or just sit in a coffee shop on your own, watching the world go by with a pad of paper.
Why not ask yourself the question about your business?
"If I had a magic dental business wand, and I waved it, what would I wish for?".
Start with that. They call that vision setting.
Decide in an ideal world where you would like to be, and then you can start to flesh out the bones, figuring out what would be required to get there.
But the first step is the first step, and it's the hardest and the biggest.
Write it down and then say it out loud. It's much more likely to happen if you do it that way than just meandering and bumbling about in the dark.
