I watched with interest as Lewis Hamilton was pulled apart at the weekend with his association with Kingspan, a company linked to the Grenfell cladding and the disaster that occurred there.
I had a discussion with Louis about it (Louis is a huge Hamilton fan) and I called out Lewis Hamilton for being associated with a company that were associated with a tragedy and Louis called me out and said that this applies to all of us.
Hamilton’s Mercedes team are also sponsored by INEOS and INEOS support fracking.
I support and have supported the SKY cycling team and they're owned by Rupert Murdoch and they were heavily sponsored by Rupert Murdoch and Sky and are now heavily sponsored by INEOS.
I eat Cadbury's chocolate (although I portray Tony’s Chocolonely as being the saviour of all chocolates). I can’t go a day with Nestle and I still use Nespresso at home.
The conversation with Louis made me take a step back and appreciate that the world is so complex now that it’s almost impossible for us to ‘do the right thing’ (at least most of the time).
The corporations are so intricately linked with our lives that it’s almost inevitable that even while trying to make the right choice we’ll make the wrong choice somewhere.
Perhaps the secret is not to try to be right all of the time, perhaps the secret is just try to do the right thing some of the time.
