In the first part of this little series about our Scottish Year Implant Course in Dundee, we teased out a little bit of the details, but I wonder if I could tell you a little bit more, not so much about the actual details of going to Dundee to do a year course in Scotland instead of travelling to England but I guess more about our year course and what it looks like and sounds like why we think it's special.

The Campbell Academy Year Implant Course has been deeply thought about.

Remember that when we launched this back in the day, we were competing with all the MSc groups, people who were rushing to get a registrable qualification because they really felt that patients would be attracted to that, and they felt that it would give them credibility and attract referrals.

If I've ever been asked one question the most in all of my teaching days, it is, "I've just got my MSc; how can I now get referrals?". MScs never get your referrals; that's never how it works.

It now very much appears on the university MSc landscape that the MSc is dying or dead in lots of different ways, and we're glad we took the route we did.

The Year One Implant course for The Campbell Academy, whether it's in Nottingham, Dundee, or elsewhere (coming soon), is a course that falls within the structure of a 3-year practical implant education experience.

It's flexible, so you can do the 3 years over 5 years still for the same cost without increasing the cost by spreading it. It's academically linked to the ITI Academy and the ITI curriculum, which is a global education platform, in fact, one of the best in the world (I would say that I'm the editor-in-chief).

It's also assessed with a summative assessment at the end of Year One, together with the certificate of the foundation level of implant dentistry education from the ITI, which is recognisable. That is something you can show to your patients and something you can show to your peers.

The resources available here are extraordinary, both in terms of the digital online resources and the discussion platform that we have, which allows you to talk about implant dentistry with your colleagues and your educators all the way through the whole of the year course.

It has live surgery elements and whiteboard elements (extraordinary sessions where you can pick up the knowledge you don't have simply by going through a process with the educators), it has a diverse, massively experienced faculty, you're not just taught by a single individual person, and all of the lecture content is available to you during and after the course.

And so the opportunity for me and for us to take this to Scotland and to try to attract many more of our Scottish colleagues (we get a lot of Scottish people travelling to Nottingham, which is a long way, I know) is an enormous privilege.

It's not just that, though; it's the camaraderie of the group that we create, it's the meals, it's the coffee breaks, it's the hotel stays, it's everything that goes around the course, it's the friends you make for the rest of your life and the contacts you make too, it's the stories about delegates who've already gone through who are happy to share and explain, it's just been part of the Campbell Academy Group, which grows and grows every year, and we hope that you'll want to become involved in that.

We're also committed to taking you towards 50 dental implant placements a year at least, which we know is a sustainable amount for people who want to move forward.

I hope you can join us at the end of October or introduce this to someone who you think would benefit not only from the educational offerings but also from the social aspect of the courses we provide.

I really look forward to seeing you soon with my feet on holy ground, back home for the first edition of our year course in Scotland.

We will also be attending the Scottish Dental Show this month, so if you're attending, pop by to see us.
