Streaks (and sorry)

When Snapchat was new, I watched my kids running huge streaks up where they would contact friend’s day after day after day for what seemed like hundreds of days on end.

The prospect of breaking a streak with someone that had been long running caused some significant anxiety amongst my younger two, particularly when they thought they would upset someone else and they would lose this thing they'd built.

It's only now that we look back and realise that none of that mattered at all.

Streaks are a great way of getting people to buy in and to continue to utilise the product or service that you're using because they get stuck in some sort of ‘tradition’.

I've committed to write this blog every single day or at least to publish it every single day but there have been incidences over the past 12 years where that hasn't happened for one reason or another and I’ve managed to just about get over it and move along.

And so, this blog is an apology because last night's blog was a repeat.

In a back story of getting towards 3300 blogs, it's likely that you will never have seen last night's blog before and even if you did, you won't remember it because you’ll have had many other things happen to you in your life, but I guess that's not the point.

I've committed to publish original material on a day-by-day basis because it's a discipline which I enjoy and I'm proud of and it holds me accountable.

The reasons that I was unable to publish it will become imminently clear in tomorrow's blog (and they're pretty cool) but for now, I'm sorry that we repeated that one in spite of the fact that it was recommended to me many years ago by a social media expert that I should have an automatic publishing engine on my past blogs and continue to republish them regularly so people get to see them more even though some people would get fed up.

That option is still available to me, but I have resisted and resisted on the basis that there is something special related to original content which I failed to produce yesterday.

Must try better.

In another 3300, I'm sure I won't be too upset about this.

See you tomorrow.
